Proper licensing for distribution?

Postby theturninggate » Sat Mar 14, 2009 9:47 pm

I'm developing templates with the intent to sell them. Some of these templates utilize Highslide, and I'd like to distribute Highslide as a part of the package. I do not want to include the Highslide license as a part of the purchase, leaving it up to users to license Highslide for themselves. I have several questions:

1) What license should I purchase for my own Highslide usage?

2) If the template documentation addresses the Highslide licensing issue, and directs users back to http://www.highslide.com for licensing, is this acceptable?

Thanks,
Matt

Matt,

1) For your own usage you need either one or more single website licenses or the unlimited one, depending on how many sites you have using Highslide.

2) If you are sure your users read this, it's acceptable. If it's possible, I recommend that you pop up an alert to your users once they select Highslide as the presentation engine.

Excellent. I'll position the notice prominently, and will do whatever else I can to drive users back to highslide.com for licensing. Thanks, Torstein!
